Boroujerdi, Aoun discuss latest regional developments

TEHRAN, Jan. 08 (MNA) – Iran’s Parliamentary delegation headed by senior MP Boroujerdi held talks with Lebanese President Michel Aoun to discuss regional issues. Mr. Alaeddin Boroujerdi heads a delegation of Parliament NSFPC to Syria and Lebanon. He visited country’s newly-elected president Michel Aoun after nearly 2 and half years when Baabda Palace in Beirut had been awaiting a tenant. Broujerdi told Iran’s state news agency IRNA on Saturday that he and Gen. Aoun had addressed bilateral interests, where Mr. Mohammad Fathali, Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon also attended. Parliamentary delegation included Mohammad Ashouri Taziani, Ahmad Amirabadi Farahani, Kamal Dehghani Firouzabadi, Afolfazl Hassanbeigi, and Rohollah Hazratpour. “We congratulated Mr. Aoun on his presidency as well as Christian New Year’s Eve, also communicating greetings by Mr. Larijani, the Parliament speaker to Lebanese officials,” Boroujerdi told IRNA. “The meeting also addressed no less important issue of Syrian crisis and its strategic place in Iranian foreign policy architecture as well as Lebanese position as a neighbor; the crucial issue is refugee crisis, where hundreds of thousands of Syrians are now in camps inside Lebanon,” he added. Mr. Aoun shared Boroujerdi’s emphasis upon strengthening ties especially parliamentary ties. Parliamentary delegation will reportedly meet Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri.
