BRICS experts discussing counter-terrorist agenda in Brasilia

RIO DE JANEIRO, August 2. /TASS/. Meetings of the BRICS counter-terrorist working group have begun on Thursday in Brasilia. The Russian delegation is headed by Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Crisis Management Center Vladimir Tarabrin, the Russian embassy told TASS. Particularly, the meeting and the three-day seminar that preceded it featured such topics as the use of the Internet and social media for terrorist purposes, mechanisms of uncovering terrorist financing sources, prevention of radical sentiments from spreading and need for constant improvement of relevant agencies’ work. According to Brazil, chair of the meeting, the delegations will also exchange their strategic visions of countering terrorism, as well as approaches to have it uprooted globally. Earlier, foreign ministers of the BRICS countries highlighted the successful work the five states are carrying out on the anti-terrorist front in the statement adopted following their meeting in Rio de Janeiro on July 26. The talks are coming to a close on Friday and are expected to lay the groundwork for future discussions and agreements of the high-level representatives’ contacts on security issues, which are scheduled for October 17-18 also in Brasilia.
