BRICS leaders call on parties to comply with JCPOA for Iran’s nuclear program

JOHANNESBURG, July 26. /TASS/. The leaders of BRICS member states (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) call on the parties to fully comply with their obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) for Iran’s nuclear program, says the Johannesburg Declaration adopted at the tenth BRICS summit in South Africa’s Johannesburg. "Recalling the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program we call upon all parties to fully comply with their obligations and ensure full and effective implementation of the JCPOA to promote international and regional peace and security," the five leaders said. "We reaffirm our commitment to collective efforts for peaceful settlement of disputes through political and diplomatic means, and recognize the role of the UN Security Council as bearing the primary responsibility for maintaining international peace and security," the declaration adds. "We express our concern over the ongoing conflict and heightened tensions in the Middle-East region and our conviction that there is no place for unlawful resorting to force or external interference in any conflict and that, ultimately, lasting peace can only be established through broad-based, inclusive national dialogue with due respect for the independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of each of the countries of the region," the BRICS leaders pointed out. "We agree that, in each of the countries in the region, citizens have legitimate aspirations to fully enjoy civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights and fundamental freedoms, especially with regard to the Israeli-Palestinian situation," the Johannesburg Declaration said.
