BRICS member-countries support decision to set up de-escalation zones in Syria - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW, June 20. /TASS/. The BRICS member-countries have expressed support for the negotiation processes on Syria in Geneva in Astana and welcomed the decision to establish the de-escalation zones in that country, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday following meeting of the BRICS foreign ministers in Beijing on June 18-19. "The ministers strongly support the Geneva peace talks and the Astana process and welcome the establishment of the de-escalation zones," the ministry emphasized, adding that the parties are also "opposed to the use of chemical weapons by anyone for any purpose and under any circumstances." According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the BRICS member-countries have reaffirmed once again that "the only lasting solution to the Syrian crisis is the inclusive political process carried out by Syrians and led by Syrians themselves that ensures Syria’s national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2254(2015)."
