BRICS sherpas will discuss preparations for summit in India - Russian diplomat

MOSCOW, April 29. /TASS/. BRICS sherpas and su-sherpas will discuss preparations for the summit scheduled for October 15-16 in India’s Goa, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Russia’s Sherpa to BRICS Sergey Ryabkov told TASS on Friday. "The first meeting of su-sherpas and sherpas after start of India’s chairmanship in BRICS in February this year is taking place in the city of Jaipur in India today and tomorrow," Ryabkov said. "The agenda is broad, main emphasis will be made on issues connected with the plan of actions for India’s chairmanship next year," he added. The deputy foreign minister noted that participants in the meeting will also focus on preparations for the summit scheduled for autumn 2016. "An informal BRICS summit will first take place in September on the sidelines of G20, and it will be followed by a full-format summit in October in Goa," he said. "Since both these events are rather important and require timely preparations, including from the point of view of developing agreements that will be reached and coordinating final documents, we should start working on this now, which we will in fact do today and tomorrow," the diplomat concluded. BRICS, an informal association of five fast-developing countries - Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa - was founded in June 2006. Its first official summit was held in June 2009 in Yekaterinburg. Since then BRICS summits are held every year in the participating countries alternately. The latest summit was held on July 8 and July 9 in Ufa. Read more
