As brotherly countries we can establish serious cooperation in media sector, says Deputy PM Arinc

ISTANBUL (A.A) - November 30, 2011 - Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc said Wednesday that Turkey and Arab countries, as brotherly ones, could establish serious cooperation in the media sector. Speaking at the inauguration of the "Turkish-Arab Media Forum" in Istanbul, Arinc said that "today, around 250 million people spoke Turkish and more than this figure spoke Arabic. Such numbers should be a source of motivation for us". "Turkey has enormous experiences in the media sector with its private and public media institutions. Such an experience is crucial for mutual cooperation," Arinc stressed. We plan to make new legal arrangements in Turkey concerning the use of internet sites, Arinc noted. The English language has to some extent become the official language of the global media. Today, we watch events from one single source, single language and single perspective. Such a situation is a matter of concern for all world countries, Arinc emphasized. "As brotherly countries, we can establish serious cooperation in the media sector. Turkey's experiences in the media sector could be crucial for cooperation. Our state-run TRT TV channel began broadcasting in Arabic. And, this channel is watched by millions in the Arab world. In addition to the TRT, the Anadolu Agency (AA) will begin publishing news in Arabic. The AA will open offices in all Arab states," Arinc said. I hope that the forum in Istanbul will help us get closer and facilitate mutual communication, Arinc also said.
