Buying equipment for Arak facilities not against Geneva deal

Tehran, Dec 9, IRNA – Purchasing equipment for Arak nuclear facility will not violate the Geneva deal as Iran has not installed any new apparatus in Arak, a senior official at the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) said on Tuesday. According to the Geneva deal, said AEOI's Spokesman Behrouz Kamalvandi, 'Iran has agreed not to set up new equipment in Arak facility and it has not done so ever since.' The deal was signed by Iran and the six world major powers (US, Britain, Russia, France and China plus Germany) on November 2013. However, Kamalvandi added he had no information about trading any new apparatus for Arak Nuclear Complex which is located near the capital Tehran. 'Even if there was such a trading, that would not violate the Geneva deal,' the spokesman stressed. He made the remarks while speaking on the sidelines of an international conference opened here earlier in the day for a World Against Violation and Extremism. Touching upon the issue of resumption of nuclear talks between Iran and the Group 5+1, Kamalvandi said, 'Talks continue in different levels and will resume by next week.' Referring to Tehran's cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Kamalvandi said, 'Cooperation over new issues depends on finalizing previous subjects including Marivan explosions and IAEA's explanations over certain evidences which Iran believes are fake.' 'We will discuss new subjects when those two issues are settled,' the official stressed. As for the IAEA's inspections in Iran, Kamalvandi said Tehran would accept inspections to be made over safeguard issues and not beyond that./end
