Cabinet approves development projects for lower North

NAKHON SAWAN, June13 (TNA) – The Cabinet on Tuesday approved development plans for agriculture, transportation, water management and tourism in the lower northern provinces. Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha chaired the economic and social development meeting for the lower northern provincial cluster 2 and the cabinet meeting at Nakhon Sawan Rajabhat University. The lower northern provincial cluster 2 includes Nakhon Sawan, Phichit, Kamphang Phet and Uthai Thani. The cabinet approved the private sector’s proposal for the promotion and development of a bio-industry hub in Nakhon Sawan. A research center for agriculture processing industry and bio-based industry will be established in Nakhon Sawan to promote the use of main crops, such as rice, sugar cane and cassava, grown in the lower northern provinces. Infrastructure will be upgraded to promote culture and natural tourism of Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary in Uthai Thani, Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park and Phichit ancient city park. Roads will be repaired or expanded for the total distance of 486 kilometres with the budget of 26 billion baht to be allocated between 2019 -2022 to support Nakhon Sawan to be the bio industry hub. Moreover, the Office of the National Water Resources was assigned to oversee the restoration of Phichit River to increase water drainage efficiency and water storage capacity. Under the water resource development plan, Bueng Si Fai freshwater lake will be rehabilitated and a reservoir in Uthai Thani will be dredged and its embankment will be reinforced. (TNA)
