Cairo seeks regional meeting over Syria conflict

TEHRAN, Aug. 28 (MNA) – Cairo wants Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iran and Egypt to meet for talks to work out how to end the 17-month conflict in Syria, Egyptian officials said on Sunday. Iran has been backing dialogue between the opposition and the government of President Bashar al-Assad, while Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt have all called for an end to Assad's rule. Morsi put forward the plan at an Islamic conference in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, earlier this month. Moris will travel to Tehran this week to attend the summit of the Non-Aligned Movement. "We are currently conducting a series of discussions to explore the possibility of holding such a meeting and the expected outcome," Amr Roshdy, Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman told Reuters, about the plans for four-way talks.
