Cambodian, Thai PMs pledge transport cooperation

BANGKOK, June 16 (TNA) - Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha has discussed with his Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen on transport cooperation, aimed at promoting tourism. They held talks in Bangkok on Friday on the sidelines of the 8th Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) Summit. Gen. Prayut told journalists that his government has given importance to further developed border areas and had asked Cambodian leader to accelerate on opening a permanent border checkpoint between the Thai northeastern border province Buri Ram’s Ban Nong Ian and Cambodia’s Ban Strung Bot and to also upgrade other border checkpoints on a sustainable basis. Both government leaders have reaffirmed to promote transport cooperation aimed at strengthening tourism cooperation while Gen. Prayut told his Cambodian counterpart that a shipping project along the coasts of Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam would help boost trade and tourism in the region. In response, Cambodian prime minister said he would discuss the issue with related Cambodian officials. (TNA)
