Caspian Sea's legal status meeting ends in Tehran

Tehran, October 25, AZERTAC As earlier reported, the Working Group on determining the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea has held its 47th meeting in Tehran. The 2-day meeting attended by special representatives and deputy foreign ministers of the five Caspian littoral states, including Iran, Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan has ended. Negotiations related to the demarcation of the Caspian Sea have been going on for nearly a decade now among the littoral states bordering the Caspian. The major issues cover the access to the mineral resources (oil and gas), access for fishing, access to international waters. The participants exchanged views on the necessity of taking steps towards a conclusion on the Caspian status draft convention and making efforts to bring the positions of the sides closer. The participants expressed gratitude to the government of Iran for high organization of the meeting. The next meeting of the Working Group on determining the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea will be held in Ashkhabad.
