Chairman of Caucasian Muslims Office holds meetings in St Petersburg

Saint Petersburg, November 24, AZERTAC Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Office Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade has met with Vice-Governor of Saint Petersburg Alexander Govorunov. Chairman of the Caucasian Muslim Office noted that relations between Azerbaijani-Russian peoples have deep historical roots. He also mentioned that the peoples of the two countries established close humanitarian ties. “About 400,000 Azerbaijanis currently live here. Relations between the city of Saint Petersburg and Azerbaijan are developing successfully. Only in the first half of this year the trade turnover between the countries increased 4.5 times,” said Vice-Governor Govorunov. As part of his visit to St Petersburg, Allahshukur Pashazade also met with the chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the city Vyacheslav Makarov. They stressed that more than 200 interstate and intergovernmental documents were signed between Azerbaijan and Russia and pointed out that there are great prospects for expanding trade and economic relations. The sides also emphasized the dynamic development of mutual relations in social, cultural and humanitarian spheres.
