Charter flight to be organized to Kuril Islands for their former inhabitants - Japanese PM

MOSCOW, January 22. /TASS/. Japan and Russia have agreed to organize another charter flight to the Kuril Islands in the coming summer so that their former inhabitants could visit their ancestors’ graves, visiting Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said on Tuesday after his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. "Humanitarian measures for the former inhabitants of the islands play a great role in the establishment of an atmosphere of trust between the two nations on their path to a peace treaty. At the meeting, we agreed to organize a charter flight this summer so that these people could visit their ancestors’ graves," Abe said. In September 2017, Japan and Russia organized a charter flight to the southern Kuril Islands for their former inhabitants in furtherance of the two leaders’ agreement on visa-free trips for these people.
