Chemical Weapons Non-Proliferation Org. Praises Iran's Effective Co-op

Berlin, Nov 27, IRNA – Managing Director of Chemical Weapons Non-Proliferation Organization here Monday praised Iran's effective cooperation with his affiliated organization, referring to Tehran's positive and constructive approach. Ahmad Uzumju made the comment here on Monday evening in a meeting with visiting Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammad-Mahdi Akhoundzadeh, further reiterating that 'Iran is a very active and effective member of the CWNPO.' Uzumju who had visited Iran two years ago and had meetings with the Iranian victims of the chemical weapons said, 'I was deeply influenced meeting those victims and therefore I have been spending all my efforts aimed at serving such victims.' Akhoundzadeh, too, who is in Berlin to attend the 17th Annual Conference of the CWNPO Member Countries, which is to be held in Hague emphasized, that the Islamic Republic is committed to its vowed responsibilities under the Chemical Weapons Non-Proliferation Convention.' Akhoundzadeh reiterated, 'We, as the greatest victim of chemical weapons, side by side with the international community, ask for having a world free from threats, production, and usage of the weapons of mass destruction (WMD), including chemical weapons.' He added that lack of commitment of some countries that possess chemical weapons, including the United States, in annihilation of such weapons within the scheduled period is a serious threat for international peace and stability, asking the CWNPO secretary general to spend all his efforts aimed at convincing the possessors of such weapons to remain committed to their responsibilities in that respect. The 17th Annual Conference of CWNPO Member Countries began as of Monday November 26th in Hague, the Netherlands, and would continue its activities for five days.
