China Backs Iran’s Presence In Geneva Conference On Syria

Beijing, Oct 12, IRNA – China announced on Friday that it supports Iran’s presence in Geneva-II Conference to explore ways to put an end to Syria crisis. The conflict in Syria will not be resolved without participation of the regional countries, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying stated. The spokesperson further underlined that certain regional countries can play a more influential role and their presence in Geneva Conference is very important. According to media, the conference will probably happen in October 2013. The spokesperson called on all countries to seize the opportunity provided by Geneva talks to find a negotiated end to the crisis, stressing that China supports only a political solution to the civil war in Syria. Analysts believe that the remarks made by the Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson indicated Beijing's opposition to any kind of efforts by Western countries to change the government in Syria./end
