China to develop cooperation with Russia even if international situation changes

SHENZHEN /China/, May 6. /TASS/. China’s intention to deep strategic cooperation with Russia will not change even in the event of any changes in the international situation, Vice Premier of China’s State Council Liu Yandong said at a meeting with speaker of the Russian State Duma (lower house of parliament) Sergei Naryshkin. The two politicians are taking part on Friday in the ceremony of laying the cornerstone on the site where the main complex of the joint university of Moscow State University and Beijing University of Technology will be built in Shenzhen. "Under the conditions of a complex and changeable international situation Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian representatives have achieved permanence in the Russian-Chinese relations," Liu Yandong said. "That means that regardless of the changes in the international situation, our intention to strengthen and deepen the comprehensive strategic cooperation will not change. Our intention to seek common development and prosperity, defend international justice, peace and stability around the world will not change either," she said. According to her, the Chinese side is eagerly looking forward to the next visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to China in June. "Against this backdrop, today’s event is quite symbolic and is of great importance, because it is a good preparation for the forthcoming visit of President Putin to China," the vice premier said, adding that Friday’s event will play its positive role in the further development of the Russian-Chinese relations. For his part, State Duma speaker Sergei Naryshkin noted that it marks a new stage in the development of cooperation in education and exchanges. "I am confident that the best representatives of the Russian and Chinese youth will study at the joint university, as well as students from other countries. This project is sure to become a flagship of the strategic partnership between our two countries and peoples," he said. Read more
