China, Iran interested in cooperating with CSTO - organization’s chief

MOSCOW, April 13. /TASS/. China, Iran and a number of other countries are showing interest in cooperating with the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the organization’s Secretary-General Nikolay Bordyuzha told TASS. "There is interest in cooperation with the CSTO. But it’s up to these countries to make decisions on more serious interaction," he said. "The CSTO is ready to consider an application of any country, be it Pakistan, Iran, China, Azerbaijan or Georgia. However, the decisive factor for us will be the consciousness of such a decision and the country's willingness to take practical steps in the security sphere on a collective basis. It should be not just a political move, after which nothing happens, but a careful and well-weighed decision," Bordyuzha said. The Collective Security Treaty Organization founded in 1992 currently comprises six member-countries - Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. Uzbekistan’s membership in the organization was suspended in 2012. Read more
