China Promises Support For Afghanistan’s Reconstruction

Kabul (BNA) Chinese Chargé d'Affaires Zhang Zhixin participated in the inaugural ceremony for the China-Afghanistan Friendship Well No.1 in the Paghman district of Kabul province here yesterday, the embassy said. A statement from the Chinese embassy said Zhixin visited Zarshak village of Paghman and attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the project. Diplomats from the embassy, the Kabul provincial council chairman and representatives of local villagers, totaling about 50, attended the event, the statement said. Kabul Provincial Council head Rahman expressed his gratitude on behalf of the villagers for China’s assistance in digging the well and said before the completion of the project, water shortage caused inconvenience to residents. However, the completion of the Well No. 1 solved the problem to a great extent and brought visible benefits to the villagers. The China and Afghanistan Friendship well has become a symbol of friendship between the people of two countries. As the Chinese saying goes, “don’t forget the well-diggers when you drink water from the well”, the Afghan people would never forget the generous assistance from Chinese brothers, he said. Zhang said China and Afghanistan had always been good neighbors, friends and partners, and the two countries enjoyed a long history of friendly exchanges. The Chinese embassy said it highly valued the friendship and was willing to make contribution within its capacity to the peaceful reconstruction of Afghanistan, the diplomat added. Zhang believed that with joint efforts by both governments and peoples, the China-Afghanistan friendship and cooperation would be passed on from generation to generation.
