Chinese president concludes visit to Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan, Tashkent, September 11 / Trend D.Azizov / Chinese president Xi Jinping who paid a state visit to Uzbekistan at the invitation of president Islam Karimov left for Bishkek, press-service of the republic's Foreign Ministry said. Yesterday Xi Jinping visited Samarkand where he became familiar with historical sightseeing of one of the world's oldest cities. Uzbek president Islam Karimov accompanied him during the visit. As it was reported, high-level bilateral negotiations were held in Tashkent yesterday. The heads of Uzbekistan and China assessed the results of these negotiations as fruitful. Chinese and Uzbek presidents signed a Friendship and Cooperation Agreement and a Joint Declaration on further development and strengthening of bilateral strategic partnership relations. In addition, a large package of intergovernmental and interagency documents was signed with the participation of the two countries' leaders. These documents were aimed at expanding cooperation in the sphere of industry, development of mineral resources, energy, transport and high technology, expanding humanitarian relations and development of bilateral military and military-technical cooperation contributing to effective counteraction against challenges and threats to national and regional security. In total, around 31 documents on joint implementation of totally about $15 billion worth projects were signed within Chinese president Xi Jinping's visit to Uzbekistan. The heads of the states noted that the negotiations were held under the conditions of mutual understanding, constructivism and mutual trust. Their results demonstrated commonality and coincidence of the positions on the majority of the discussed issues. The leaders of the two countries stressed that reached agreements will serve for further development of Uzbek-Chinese interactions.
