Chinese president to meet Indian PM at BRICS summit in Ufa

BEIJING, July 8. /TASS/. Chinese President Xi Jinping is due to hold a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) summit in Ufa on Wednesday, an official spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry Hua Chunying said. "Xi Jinping departed for Ufa in the morning to participate in the BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summits. Later today, he is meeting Prime Minister [of India] Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the summit," she noted. "Modi paid a successful visit to China in May this year. We hope that the two leaders’ meeting in Ufa today will strengthen the strategic consensus between the two countries, enrich China-India strategic cooperation and create a stronger partnership for the development of our countries," the diplomat stressed. "We are willing to consider the forthcoming meeting as an opportunity to put into practice the consensus reached by the two leaders, strengthen our mutual strategic trust and pragmatic partnership, deepen cooperation on regional and other international issues as well as bring in a new impulse for the development of China-India relations," the spokesperson said.
