CIS Inter-parliamentary Assembly speaker suggests to resume contacts with Ukraine's Rada

ST. PETERSBURG, November 27. /TASS/. Speaker of the Federation Council, or upper house of the Russian parliament, Valentina Matviyenko, who has been re-elected speaker of the Inter-parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States /CIS/, on Thursday suggested this platform be used to resume contacts with Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada /parliament/. “The new Verkhovna Rada has been formed, a new speaker has been elected and we must think how to finish this protracted pause in contacts with the Verkhovna Rada,” she said at the Assembly’s session. Matviynko suggested relation with the Rada be discussed at today’s session of the Inter-parliamentary Assembly’s council. She expressed regret that the Assembly’s observers had no possibility to monitor the latest elections to the Verkhovna Rada, since Ukraine had not invited observers from the CIS Inter-parliamentary Assembly.
