CIS prime ministers to discuss steps to enhance sustainability of CIS countries’ economies

MOSCOW, May 29. /TASS/. Prime ministers of the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will meet on Friday in Kazakhstan’s Burabai to discuss steps to enhance sustainability of their countries’ economies in the current turbulent conditions. The summit is expected to yield a package of documents, including an action plan in the financial and economic sphere. Russia will be represented by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev who arrived in Kazakhstan on Thursday. The press service of the Russian government told TASS the summit’s agenda would include 20 issues. "The focus will be made on measures to enhance the sustainability of CIS countries’ economies in conditions of unstable global economic situation, on cooperation in the areas of innovation, transport security, interregional and cross-border cooperation, forestry and culture," the press service said. It is planned to adopt a "plan of joint actions of CIS member states to solve the current problems in the financial and economic sphere in order to ensure macroeconomic stability and economic growth, to develop industrial cooperation, trade and financial sectors of the CIS countries," the press service noted. It is also planned to adopt a strategy of transport security inside the member countries in issues of international transportation. "This document sets the goals and tasks and outlines areas of cooperation between the CIS states in this sphere and is meant to promote closer economic ties and security within the CIS," the press service said. Apart from that, the CIS prime ministers are expected to sign more than a dozen other documents on such issues as cross-border cooperation, cooperation between defence ministries, personnel training and professional enhancement, exchange of information on migration issues, cooperation in the spheres of research and innovation, and in the area of culture.
