Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay and Peru interested in cooperation with GUAM

Georgia, Tbilisi, September 1 / Trend N.Kirtskhalia / Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay and Peru is interested in cooperation with GUAM, the Permanent Representative of Georgia to GUAM Merab Antadze told reporters in Tbilisi. "Bilateral relations in the framework of GUAM are quite active and relationship with partner organizations - Japan, the United States, the Visegrad Group states,are also intensiv" he said. Antadze also said that there are a number of countries that wish to establish closer cooperation with the regional organization. "Latin American countries - Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay and Peru showed interest in cooperation with GUAM, they want to contact and cooperate with GUAM at the level of regional organizations," Antadze said. GUAM was established by the post-Soviet countries in 1997 during the EU presidential summit at Strasbourg. In 1999, Uzbekistan joined the organization and left four years later. A decision was made to rename GUAM as an international organization called 'Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM', at the body's first summit in Kiev in 2006.
