Countries supporting terrorism contribute to increasing global terrorist threat - Shoigu

MOSCOW, April 16 /TASS/. Global terrorist threat is growing because of some countries’ support for terrorists, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu told the 4th International Moscow Security Conference on Thursday. ‘Life has shown the pernicious effect of activities of countries that are creating and encouraging terrorist groups with an aim to solve their own tasks. In future, such organizations tend to get out of their patrons’ control and turn into universal security problems," Shoigu said. That was the case in Afghanistan where the Taliban movement had once been encouraged. Later, it became the cradle of Al-Quaeda. "The same experience was repeated in Libya, Syria and Iraq. The ‘Islamic State’ terrorists are even creating quasi states," the Russian defense minister went on to say. ‘We consider any dalliance with terrorists to be extremely dangerous. We cannot watch calmly how recruits from various countries are leaving to join the ISIS ranks and not to think what’s going to happen when the militants return home after some time," Shoigu stressed. He added that Russia had warned its foreign partners about that threat several years ago. Read more
