CSTO Secretary General to discuss plan of action for Armenia’s term of presidency

YEREVAN, January 26. /TASS/. Secretary General of the CIS Collective Security Treaty Organization, Nikolai Bordyuzha is expected to discuss the priorities of Armenia’s term of rotating presidency in the organization when he visits Yerevan from January 26 through January 29, a spokesman for the CSTO Secretariat told TASS. "As part of the visit, there’ll be a meeting with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, who is chairing the Collective Security Council of the CSTO," he said. "The two men will discuss the pressing task the organization is faced with." In the course of the talks, a plan for practical steps on the decisions of the September and December 2015 sessions of the Collective Security Council will be submitted for endorsement. Bordyuzha will also discuss steps towards practical improvements in the CSTO operation several Armenian ministers and government officials. Armenia embarked on a term of the CSTO collective presidency last September. Serzh Sargsyan, who spoke in Dushanbe, Tajikisan on September 15 mapped out the priorities for the term. He named a buildup of the organization’s collective potential "proceeding from the principle of continuity" and development of the system of crisis settlement. He also pointed to improving the coordination of foreign policy of the member-states, further improvements in the systems of control over the forces and technologies at the disposal of the organization, as well as improvements in logistics and transportation. "We plan to focus on joint counteraction to international terrorism and extremism, as well as to the manifestations of neo-fascism, chauvinism and other forms of xenophobia," Sargsyan said. "In this sense, we attack significance to stepping up the joint efforts in cyberspace, too." "Armenia trusts the importance of cooperation in the framework of the CSTO, which is an important element in ensuring the country’s security," Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said at a meeting with Bordyuzha last July.
