Cuba resistance voided US sanctions policy: Iran

TEHRAN, Dec. 22 (MNA) – Iran’s FM spokeswoman has hailed Cuban resistance against the US sanctions, isolation policy, saying their resilience had proved the ineffectiveness of the policy. In response to the recent developments in the United States-Cuba relations, Iran’s FM Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham commended the resistance and resilience of Cuban people and government over the last fifty years, adding, “their persistence on the principles and ideals of their revolution has proved that the imposition of the policy of isolation and sanctions by the dominant powers will ultimately fall ineffective and inefficient before the will of independent nations.” While pointing to the US government admission of the ineffectiveness of their polices in the last few decades in regard to Cuba's revolutionary and independent government she said, “the recent development in the two countries’ relations is a step forward in reducing tensions in that region. The realistic continuation and completion of this approach can leave a positive impact on the relations of Latin American countries as a whole, as well as on the process of international developments.” President Obama said on Wednesday the US and Cuba will normalize relations, which have been strained since being severed in 1961. He called an end for the ‘outdated approach’ which for decades had failed to reach any results and admitted that the isolation had not worked. The US severed diplomatic relations with Cuba in 1961, shortly after Fidel Castro ousted dictator Fulgencio Batista.
