Cuban Vice President of State Council welcomed in Hanoi

Hanoi, September 16 (VNA) – Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Tong Thi Phong held a meeting with Cuban Vice President of the Council of State Mercedes Lopez Acea in Hanoi on September 15, hailing her visit as a contribution to the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba. In the meeting, Phong thanked the leaders and people of Cuba for their support to Vietnam in the past and at the present, while asking the two countries to continue strengthening their political, economic, and educational ties. She said the collaboration between the two parliaments helped develop Vietnamese-Cuban relations and she affirmed that the Vietnamese law-making body has always stood by the Cuban Party, State and Government. For her part, Mercedes Lopez Acea said his visit aimed to exchange experience and consolidate cooperation and solidarity between the two nations. She considered Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements as a valuable example for Cuba and urged both sides to expand their affiliation for the benefit of the two peoples. On the same day, Chairman of the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee Nguyen The Thao hosted a reception for the Cuban official, who is also the Secretary of the Havana Committee of the Cuban Communist Party. Briefing his guest on the capital’s achievements and challenges, such as traffic congestion, environmental pollution and population growth, Thao expressed his hope that Havana would support Hanoi in tackling these difficulties, thus fostering relations between the two capitals and the two countries. Mercedes Lopez Acea said the exchange of delegations between Hanoi and Havana played a major role in intensifying cooperation between the two countries, adding that Vietnam ’s experience with the renewal process would help Havana update economic growth models. Later the day, Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisation Vu Xuan Hong received the Cuban official.-VNA
