Daily comments on motives for fighting ISIL

Tehran, Nov 15, IRNA - 'Iran Daily' on Saturday commenting on ways to fight the terrorist group ISIL, criticized US's aerial campaign against the ISIL in Syria and Iraq. The fact is, the terrorist group cannot be taken out only via bombardment, suggested the English-language paper, adding that countries involved in the US-led military coalition fullly know this and have repeatedly said that ISIL cannot be crushed without ground invasion. This is while Washington has realized it is unable to the bring things under control by deploying ground troops. Iran’s military advisors are now active in Iraq and since the Islamic Republic has a better knowledge about the situation in its neighbor compared to the Western country, it has acted successfully in helping the Iraqi government in the fight against ISIL, stated the paper in its Opinion column (pg 3). The northern town of Amerli in Iraq’s Saladin province was recaptured with Iran’s assistance and this shows that Iran has a power in the region that the US does not. Therefore, Iran plays an important role in the fight against ISIL, it added. Tehran has strong motives to aid Baghdad as it believes the Takfiri organization is a real threat to the entire Middle East. The Islamic Republic, a main supporter of the resistance front, should to its best to destroy ISIL, underscored the paper. It is an open secret that Saudi Arabia has provided the group with substantial military assistance. ISIL has grown into a big terror organization for large number of Takfiris from regional and Western countries have joined its ranks, it pointed out. That’s why it is a serious threat not just to Iraq and Syria but also to all the countries in the region. ISIL is now operating in large swathes of land and this shows that the pawn has gone out of control of their supporters, added the daily. The US and Saudi Arabia played a major role in the emergence of the ISIL with the aim of toppling the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. They didn’t mean to create a major challenge to Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region or other regional Arab countries. Therefore, when ISIL crossed the borders by attacking other territories and revolting against its supporters, Washington and Riyadh teamed up against it, wrote the paper in conclusion.
