Danish Scholar: Iran Not After Producing N-weapons

Copenhagen, Feb 22, IRNA - Danish University lecturer Søren Schmidt said on Tuesday the existing evidences prove that Iran is not after producing nuclear weapons. The professor of development and international relations at Copenhagen Arhus University wote an article titled “West’s Threats against Iran' which was published in “Politican” newspaper. “The latest joint report of US intelligence agencieis also proves that Iranian officials do not want to develop nuclear weapons,” Schmidt said. He said from historical point of view Iran has never attacked any country while the US has been engaged in at least four big wars, bombarded and occupied several countries and killed thousands of people since 1990. The article read that Iran is sieged by enemies such as the US and Israel which threatening it with attacks. The scholar reiterated that Western countries’ claims against Iran are not true, because Iranian leaders, based on religious decrees, have banned production, proliferation and stockpiling of nuclear weapons. “Iran is a signatory to Non-Proliferation Treaty and has subsequently allowed the IAEA inspectors to visit its nuclear programs and constantly control its activities whereas Israel is not a signatory to the NPT,” Schmidt said. He said the West's ban on Iranian oil exports will lead to hikes in oil prices, economic repression and unemployment./end
