Democratization in Arab world will lead to positive development for Turkish Cypriots, says OIC SG

LEFKOSA (A.A) - November 28, 2011 - Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Prof. Dr. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, said Sunday that the democratization process in the Arab world would lead to a positive development for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). Ihsanoglu arrived in the TRNC to attend a forum on higher education in OIC member countries to be held on Monday. President of the TRNC, Dervis Eroglu, met with Ihsanoglu at the TRNC Presidency on Sunday. Speaking to reporters while receiving Ihsanoglu, President Eroglu said that education was an area in which they were highly sensitive. Cooperation with the Islamic countries is essential. We will discuss cooperation with the OIC members on Monday. We are highly pleased to see the OIC Secretary General in the TRNC, Eroglu underlined. Dr. Ihsanoglu, in his part, said that they knew about the right cause of the Turkish Cypriots. We are doing all we can so that embargoes applied on the TRNC end. We support the good will mission of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Cyprus, Ihsanoglu said. There are three important sectors in the TRNC: higher education, tourism and agriculture, Ihsanoglu stressed. Higher education in the TRNC continues to progress successfully. Our meeting on Monday will involve higher education in the TRNC. 53 participants from 22 countries will attend Monday's meeting. Some of the participants will be ministers, Ihsanoglu said. Our goal is to introduce the high potential that the TRNC has in higher education to the Islamic world, Ihsanoglu also said.
