Deputy FM: Crises In Syria, Iraq Result Of Some Regional Countriesˈ Wrong Policies

Tehran, July 3, IRNA – Growth of extremism in region is the result of wrong polices perused by some regional and trans-regional countriesˈ wrong policies and interventions in them, Iranian deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs said here Wednesday night. Hossein Amir Abdollahian made the comment in a meeting with the visiting Irish Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Barry Robinson who is in Tehran for consultations on bilateral affairs and regional developments. Elaborating on the rapid regional developments and the basic policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran towards them, he emphasized that the wrong policies and interventions of some regional and trans-regional countries have inflicted lots of losses against the regional and world security and stability. The Iranian deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs said that taking instrumental advantage of extremism and terrorism aimed at political regime change has created huge catastrophic conditions and have turned into a major disability and insecurity factor both for the Middle East region and for the whole world. He emphasized that the phenomenon will not remain restrictively in this region, as it will definitely have aftermaths throughout the world, reiterating the need for adopting emergency international measures in campaign against terrorism and extremism. Barry Robinson, too, for his part referring to the recent developments in Iraq and the growth of terrorism and extremism in the region, said that those are shared concerns for Tehran and Dublin. He said that Ireland has the bitter experience of terrorism, stressed the need for resolute campaign against the phenomenon, and said that the European Union pursues a basic policy against terrorism and extremism. Pointing to the Syrian crisis, the Irish deputy foreign minister for political affairs said that his country, like Iran, supports the political initiative and is opposed to forwarding weapons to that country, just like the case in Iraq. Meanwhile, in a separate meeting with a Belgian delegation led by Van Dessel, the managing director of the Belgian Foreign Ministerˈs bilateral Ties Office, Amid Abdollahian surveyed the regional developments and especially the status quos in Syria and Iraq today. The Iranian diplomat elaborated on the Islamic Republicˈs stands on regional developments, especially the terrorist events in Iraq and Syria, stressing that Tehran emphasizes pursuing political and democratic procedures based on the peoplesˈ wills and demands. ˈIran considers abnormal measures, such as taking advantage of the ISIS terrorists and armed militia forces aimed at ushering regime changes against the political systems that have take shape according to the peopleˈs votes as a perilous phenomenon that needs to be severely halted. Amir Abdollahian said that the threats of extremism and terrorism are not restrictively perilous for this region, asking for international cooperation in campaign against the malicious phenomena. ˈWe believe the political process in Iraq must not be disturbed as that will only brave the terrorists and create a greater threat against the world peace and security,ˈ he said. The managing director of the Belgian Foreign Ministryˈs Bilateral Ties Office, too, for his part noted his countryˈs deep concern about the expansion of extremism and terrorism in the region and stressed the significant role that the Islamic Republic is playing for improvement of regional security and resolving the ongoing regional crises. ˈTerrorism and insecurity in the Middle East will affect the other parts of the world and keeping in the capabilities and capacities of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the region, we believe the key to resolving the crises in this region is Iran, although the international communityˈs assistance and contributions in this respect, too, are necessary,ˈ he added./end
