Deputy FM: Diplomatic solution a priority in regional crisis

Tehran, Oct 6, IRNA – Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian warned about to threats of extremism and terrorism against the world, Middle East and Africa in particular, saying that diplomatic solutions should be prioritized over military ones in tackling regional crises. He made the remarks in a meeting with director general of Uganda Foreign Ministry for regional affairs, Rozet Nirinkind Katungi. During the meeting, both officials discussed expansion of bilateral ties in all fields. Expressing pleasure over high level of political ties between the two countries, Amir-Abdollahian said that the level of economic and commercial relations is not proportionate with the two countries' capacities. Referring to threats against the world, especially Middle East and Africa, he underlined employment of diplomatic means for addressing regional crises. The official also called for mutual cooperation for fighting extremism and terrorism. The Ugandan official, for her part, condoled death of hundreds of Iranian pilgrims in Mina, near the holy city of Mecca, stressing the need for necessary measures to prevent repetition of such incidents in future. Pointing to the growing trend of bilateral ties, especially in post-sanctions era, she said that completion of Iran treatment center in the capital Kampala is a turning point in the two country's ties. Rozet Nirinkind Katungi is currently in Iran at the head of delegation to attend the second meeting of Iran-Uganda Political Committee.
