Deputy FM: First conceptual draft Convention on legal status of Caspian Sea was prepared by Azerbaijan

Baku, August 15, AZERTAC Azerbaijani deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Khalaf Khalafov has said it was his country that prepared and submitted the first conceptual draft Convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea to other littoral states. "This factor played an exceptional role in defining the subject of negotiations at that time," he told AZERTAC in an exclusive interview. "In addition, agreement to establish 15-mile-wide territorial waters off the Caspian coast for each nation and set up fishing zones adjacent to their new territorial waters as well as agreement on fundamental principles laying at the heart of cooperation in the sea was reached at the third Caspian Summit in Baku on November 18, 2010," Khalafov added.
