DEPUTY PM RECEIVES WIPO DIRECTOR-GENERAL

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Deputy Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh received July 22 the Director-General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Francis Gurry, who is visiting Mongolia these days. Mr Khurelsukh proposed integrating Mongolia’s intellectual properties database into the WIPO’s database. While highlighting the government’s works for protecting intellectual properties, he said Mongolia joined the Marrakesh VIP Treaty, formally the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works by Visually Impaired Persons and Persons with Print Disabilities, and that the cabinet of ministers recently adopted the National Strategy on Intellectual Property. He also mentioned that the study program of general education schools will include certain hours of lessons on the education about intellectual properties, starting next academic year. This is expected to improve children’s creativity from earlier age, he added. The Government also has been working on making amendments to Laws on Patents, Copyrights and other related rights, in order to achieve international standards of intellectual property protection. Mongolia has been sending its intellectual property specialists to the training provided by the WIPO, said Mr Khurelsukh and proposed continuing such a cooperation. Mr Francis Gurry accepted the proposals and noted that a safeguarding of intellectual properties always brings efficiency to a country’s economy.
