Developing strategic partnership between Russia, China on agenda at talks of foreign ministers in Moscow

MOSCOW, April 7. /TASS/. Russian-Chinese relations and international issues are on the agenda of today’s talks between the foreign ministries of the two countries. China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi has arrived in Moscow on Tuesday with an official visit at the invitation of his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov. One of the key aims of the visit is to prepare for the upcoming visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Moscow on May 9. "Special attention will be paid to bilateral cooperation in the international affairs which constitutes one of the most important spheres of Russian-Chinese strategic partnership," the Russian Foreign Ministry said. "Moscow and Beijing share equal or similar approaches to most international problems and plan to continue close coordination of its foreign policy efforts," the foreign ministry stressed. "Russia and China consider significant the deepening of cooperation in different multilateral formats, particularly in the UN, SCO [Shanghai Cooperation Organization], BRICS [Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa], RIC [Russia, India, China], G20, APEC [Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation], East Asia Summit," the ministry noted. "Both sides stress the importance of increasing the effectiveness of joint efforts in countering global and regional challenges, of ensuring the sustainable development of the world economy. The Chinese side actively facilitates Russia’s presidency in SCO and BRICS," the foreign ministry said. "Russian-Chinese relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation have reached an unprecedented new level," the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed, noting the intensity of contacts at the high and highest levels. In May 2014, Russian President Vladimir Putin pain an official visit to China. In 2014, Putin and Xi held bilateral meetings during Winter Olympics in Russia’s Sochi, at summits of BRICS in Brazil, SCO in Dushanbe and APEC in Beijing.
