Differences between Moscow and Tokyo on peace treaty still big - Lavrov

MOSCOW, September 21./TASS/. Differences in stances of Russia and Japan on the signing of a peace treaty are still big, but the sides intend to seek mutually acceptable solutions, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said after talks with Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida. "Of course, we touched upon the problem of a peace treaty during the talks," Lavrov said. "We agreed that a next round of consultations that are conducted by our deputies upon instructions from the Russian president and the prime minister of Japan will be held in Moscow on October 8," he added. He said difficult work was in store. "Differences in positions of the sides are still big, but we confirmed a bid of both Russia and Japan to seek in accordance with instructions from our leaders solutions that will be acceptable, will be supported by the peoples of our countries," he added.
