DPRK FM Briefs on Dismantlement of Northern Nuclear Test Ground

Pyongyang, May 26 (KCNA) -- There took place briefs for diplomatic envoys and representatives of the international bodies here at the People's Palace of Culture on Friday in connection with a ceremony for completely dismantling the northern nuclear test ground of the DPRK according to a decision made at the Third Plenary Meeting of the Seventh Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea. Officials concerned including vice ministers of Foreign Affairs met the Chinese and Russian ambassadors to the DPRK, ambassadors and charge d' affaires ad interims of Asian, African, Arab and Latin American countries and diplomatic envoys of EU members and representatives of the international bodies here collectively or individually to inform them of the dismantlement of the northern nuclear test ground. At the briefs officials of the DPRK side informed them in detail of the dismantlement of the nuclear test ground before saying that the dismantlement was carried out with transparency and there were neither leakage of radioactive materials nor any adverse impact on the surrounding ecological environment. They stressed the proactive and peace-loving efforts of the government of the DPRK for ensuring peace and stability on the Korean peninsula and the rest of the world and the principled stand of the DPRK to build a nuclear-free peaceful world and an independent new world in which the dream and ideal of humanity are realized. They also said that 31 members of the international journalist group from China, Russia, U.S., Britain and south Korea participated in the ceremony for dismantling the nuclear test ground to cover the course of the dismantlement with transparency. The diplomatic envoys and representatives of the international bodies here who participated in the briefs expressed welcome and support for the peace-loving stand of the DPRK government to contribute to the worldwide nuclear disarmament and peace and security, saying that the step for dismantling the northern nuclear test ground constituted the manifestation of the clear desire of the party and government of the DPRK to defuse tension on the Korean peninsula and create a climate of dialogue. -0-
