Draft charter disapproved by NRC

BANGKOK, Sept 6 (TNA) - Thailand’s National Reform Council (NRC) members on Sunday disapproved the draft constitution, allowing the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) to appoint a new set of charter drafting committee. A total of 135 NRC members voted against the controversial charter, while 105 in favour and seven abstentions. After the vote process ended, Interior Minister General Anupong Paochinda told journalists that the government would move in line with the provisional charter. The NCPO will now have to appoint a maximum of 21-member charter drafting committee within 30 days and they will have to draft a new constitution within 180 days. Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha is now required to appoint a maximum of 200 NRC members within 30 days to continue working on reforms of the country. (TNA)
