DSI drops case against Thai PM

BANGKOK, March 30 (TNA) - Thailand's Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has resolved to drop a case against Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, who was earlier accused by the country's main opposition Democrat Party of assisting convicted ex-Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, her elder brother, to conceal his true wealth. DSI Director-General Tarit Pengdit told journalists, after his agency publicly announced the decision on Thursday, that the case was dropped due to the lack of cause to suspect a criminal offence, and that the DSI's final decision came just before the case's March 31 statutory limitation. Earlier, two Democrats, namely Korn Chatikavanij and Wiratana Kalayasiri, filed the case with the DSI, accusing Premier Yingluck, Thaksin's two children, Panthongtae and Pinthongta Shinawatra, and his brother-in-law Bhanapot Damapong as suspects who violated Thailand's securities laws and Article 267 of the Criminal Code connected to an alleged scandal to hide-up Thaksin's stakes in his Shin Corporation.(TNA)
