DSI warns protesters of violating law

BANGKOK, November 10 (TNA) - Demonstrators protesting against the controversial Amnesty Bill and financiers behind the organised rallies have been warned by Thailand’s state-run Department of Special Investigation (DSI) of violating the law and are ordered to cease the protest. DSI director-general Tharit Pengdit issued a statement on Sunday ordering the protesters and people who are financially supporting the demonstrators to hold rallies to stop committing serious mistake so that calm and democratic system could be restored. The statement said the protest should end by now after the government has decided to withdraw six draft bills related to reconciliation and similar bills from the agenda of the House of Representatives. Unfortunately, demonstrations still continue with an aim to oust the government, causing political tensions and worries among majority of the people in Thailand, the statement said, adding that such actions have caused unrest in the country and they are illegal. Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Pol. Gen. Pracha Promnog, who is tasked with overseeing security affairs, denied accusations by Democrat MP Suthep Thaugsuban that the government has hired snipers to follow him. The government will not use violence because the situation is still under control, said Pol. Gen. Pracha. Election Commission (EC) member Sodsri Satayathum has also expressed concerns over political situation, saying protesting against the Amnesty Bill should stop. Whether the House would be dissolved and a fresh election organised is up to the government to decide. The EC is prepared to organise a new general election, said Mrs. Sodsri (TNA)
