Dubai Police help foil largest hashish smuggling attempt

DUBAI (WAM): Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Commander-In-Chief of Dubai Police, yesterday at a press conference held at the General Headquarters of Dubai Police, unveiled the details of its Reverse Current Operation, through which Dubai Police provided intelligence that effectively contributed to foiling one of the biggest ever drugs smuggling attempts. Earlier, authorities at the General Department of Anti-Narcotics of Dubai Police tipped off international naval coalition forces stationed in the Indian Ocean about a major international drugs smuggling operation from Asia to West Africa. Based on the accurate information, a squad from the coalition force, on 18th September, raided a boat at a specific point on the high seas and arrested 14 smugglers who were on board. The squad seized 5,364 kilograms, valued at Dh50 million. The smugglers were trying to take the hashish from an Asian country to West Africa. Al Mazeina commended the efforts of Dubai in foiling drug smuggling attempts through cooperation with competent authorities at the global level. He emphasised the strong relations between the U.A.E. and various countries in the field of international cooperation to combat drugs, thanks to the strategies and directives of H.H. Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, in this regard.
