Dujarric evades questions on UNSC double standard towards Iran

New York, IRNA – Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman for the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, has evaded answering questions made by an IRNA correspondent on the UN Security Council’s double standard towards Iran. An IRNA correspondent questioned the UNSC’s attitude towards the Islamic Republic in a Monday press briefing by the spokesman at the UN in New York, but Dujarric said that he cannot speak on behalf of the UN Security Council. IRNA correspondent asked: The United States plans to hold an unofficial meeting at the UNSC on Iran, while the Iranian intelligence entities are of the opinion that the US is the first country involved in the recent unrest in Iran. The Islamic Republic of Iran says that the US and its allies have constantly misused the UN to pursue their own political agenda even at the cost of violating the UN regulations and Charter. What is the reaction of the UN secretary-general to the United States’ double standard? Why does the UNSC not condemn the terrorist attack on the holy shrine of Shah Cheragh in Shiraz, Fars Province? However, the UN spokesman refused to answer the questions, referring the correspondent to ask the UNSC. Dujarric said that the UN secretary general’s stance towards the terrorist attack on Shah Cheragh was very clear, firm, and prompt, but member states of the United Nations are following a charter and are free to say whatever they want. He further noted that the United Nations has a completely obvious stance in dealing with developments in Iran. Some diplomatic sources told IRNA that the US along with Albania is attempting to invite other members of the UNSC to hold an unofficial meeting this Wednesday in a bid to keep on their intervention in Iran’s internal affairs. The diplomatic sources went on to say that the meeting is a reaction to a recent report by the Iranian intelligence apparatus on conspiracies of the US against Iran and Washington’s role in the recent unrest in the Islamic country. It is worth mentioning that the UN Security Council has not yet condemned the terrorist attack on the Shah Cheragh holy shrine in Shiraz. Amir Saeed Iravani, Iran's ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations, has addressed the UNSC saying that the Islamic Republic sees terrorism as a real and big threat to peace and security, so it expects the UNSC to condemn the horrible crime vehemently.
