Duma district in Damascus shows a tragedy

ANKARA (A.A) - March 1, 2012 - The Duma district 15 kilometers away from downtown Damascus shows a tragedy. All marks on residences and on the streets clearly show the violent operations that took place in the city. Speaking to the AA, a 14-year-old child said that Syrian troops opened fire on demonstrators in Duma and that his brother was also hit by the fire. Using a fake name, Ubeyde said that "a bullet ripped through the throat of my brother. I hardly remember how I embraced him and ran away from the scene. A neighbor of ours was arrested for helping us. It was highly difficult to take my brother to the hospital. Passing through check points was tough. My brother received several bullet wounds and he is currently paralyzed". Another resident with a fake name, Abu Sabur said that "during the operations many looting took place. There were reports of women getting raped". More than 10 doctors in Duma have said that they were formerly arrested and faced torture. We try to treat the patients in our homes with our own means. Certain patients are not permitted into hospitals, the doctors told the AA. Opposition figures in general do not use their real names and do not permit any one to take their photographs or record videos. The Syrian regime sees itself as a deity. Turkey's stance against Syria is not as tough as it should be, the opposition figures said. Syrian opposition could not gather under the same roof in and out of the country. There are differences of opinion among opposition figures living out of Syria, the opposition figures noted. The attitude of those opposition members out of Syria kills us more. While we want the killing machine to stop, they are after seats. We need a leader who can unite the opposition under one roof, the opposition figures stressed. Abu Haydar told the AA that a resident, Izzeddin, was arrested on the stairs of a mosque. "Security forces told Izzeddin to say that 'Assad was God'. When Izzeddin refused to say so, he was shot in the head," Abu Haydar said. Another resident, Abu Ahmad, said that he was injured by a bomb blast during a funeral ceremony. I received treatment in homes that were turned into treatment centers by the opposition. Following the bomb blast, my two feet and left hand got paralyzed, Abu Ahmad said. I received treatment under very difficult circumstances. Nowadays, a doctor comes to me to continue my treatment. My 12-year-old son works to help the family live, Abu Ahmad underlined. As there were many check points, I departed from Duma in late evening and went to the airport to wait for my plane, Abu Ahmad said. My friend who had taken me to Duma phoned me at the airport. My friend told me that security forces entered the home where we had eaten a meal and there were arrests made in Duma. He told me that it was a good idea not to take photographs in Duma as we may have been followed and eventually arrested, Abu Ahmad also said.
