Dy FM: Iran Calls For Ceasefire In Syria

Tehran, August 29, IRNA – Deputy Foreign Minister for African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian said on Wednesday that the Islamic Republic of Iran offered its proposal for establishment of ceasefire in Syria in the current 16th Non-Aligned Movement Summit. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the NAM foreign ministerial meeting, he said Iran has called for truce to prepare the ground for a three-month long process of national reconciliation. Iran has talked to Syrian Minister for National Reconciliation Ali Heidar and a number of opposition groups in Syria to this effect, he said. Iran has offered its proposal to NAM foreign ministers as well as NAM Leaders, he said adding that the final results of Iran's proposal will be revealed at the end of the Summit. The proposal is based on establishment of of truce and holding national reconciliation between the two sides in a three-month period, he said. The two-day NAM foreign ministerial meeting will conclude its work this afternoon. The Summit of Leaders will start Thursday morning with participation of 120 member states with the opening remarks of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei./end
