Dy FM: Iran In Talks With UN To Find Solution To Syria Crisis

Tehran, April 8, IRNA – Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian said in Tehran on Monday that the Islamic Republic of Iran is holding talks with the UN and all parties involved in the Syrian crisis to help the Syrian government and nation get out of their current dilemma. Abdollahian told visiting New Zealandˈs Deputy Secretary for the Multilateral and Legal Affairs Group Gerard van Bohemen that despite support of foreign countries, terrorist groups have not be successful in dominating the country. He said political solution, humanitarian assistance and campaign against terrorism are the three key principles under present juncture being pursued by the government of Syria. He added that within that framework, the Islamic Republic of Iran is in talks and contact with the UN and all parties involved to help the Syrian government and nation get rid of the ongoing crisis. He also stressed the need to observe the rights of all people and groups and promote the democratic process in Syria. Abdollahian touched on the Palestine issue and said, “All peace overtures and plans offered so far have ignored the rights of the Palestinian people or democratic principles. So all of plans are doomed to failure.” He added that Iran has presented a model, which contains restoration of rights of Palestinians and their right to decide their own fate through a referendum as the only solution to the Palestinian problem.” The two sides in the meeting discussed major regional developments, especially dangers posed by terrorism and extremism and emphasized the need to launch efforts at regional and international levels to help strengthen stability and security in the region./end
