East-Asian summit adopts statement on Iranian nuclear programme

MOSCOW, August 6. /TASS/. Participants in a ministerial meeting of the Southeast-Asian summit have adopted a statement on the joint comprehensive plan of action to settle the situation around the Iranian nuclear programme, the Russian Foreign Ministry said upon the end of the 22nd ministerial session of the Asean regional security forum that ended in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov attended it. "The session was devoted to the 10th summit of the forum due in Kuala Lumpur on November 22," the ministry's report said. "The participants discussed further development of variegated cooperation in the format of this association and adopted a statement on the comprehensive plan of action with regard to the Iranian nuclear programme." "Russia, China and a number of Asean countries made accent on continued joint efforts to build an all-embracing, open and transparent architecture of indivisible security in the format of the multi-sided dialogue the forum is maintaining on the issue. "The session also passed a statement on protection of marine environment and endorsed a plan for the safety of utilization of IT and communication technologies, which Russia drafted together with Australia and Malaysia," the report said.
