ECO Member States’ Prosecutors Stress Expansion Of Legal, Judicial Co-op

Tehran, May 2, IRNA – Prosecutors general of ECO member states in a statement underlined expansion of legal and judicial cooperation in the field of organized crimes, cyber attacks, terrorism, drug smuggling as well as money laundering. The ECO member states’ prosecutors summit was attended by representatives from Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan Republic, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Turkey. They also underscored observance of the local and international laws regarding evidence collection, arrest and extradition of the offenders. The statement also stressed the need to promote scientific and research relations between educational centers, holding regular workshops by the prosecutors and establishing a comprehensive legal databank. The next summit will be held in Istanbul in 2013. Review of approaches for developing legal cooperation between ECO member states in a bid to fight crimes, create effective mechanisms to exchange legal information and forge online communication are among the objectives of the summit./end
