Endorsing Iran-sextet nuclear deal

By Maryam Azish Tehran, March 29, IRNA - In an effort to fully settle the decade-old dispute over Tehran’s peaceful nuclear energy program, the officials of the European Union and the United States in a statement uttered their hefty endorsement for their ongoing negotiations with Iran in a meeting in Brussels on Wednesday (March 26), underling that they would “continue to make every effort to ensure a successful” resolution of the Iran nuclear issue. Hailing the interim nuclear accord struck between Iran and the five veto-wielding permanent members of the UN Security Council– Russia, China, France, Britain, the US and Germany – in Geneva, Switzerland, last November, the US and EU officials believe that the exertions must now focus on producing a comprehensive and final settlement. Under the Geneva interim accord over Iran’s nuclear program signed on November 24 last year which was also known as the Joint Plan of Action, Iran will voluntarily limit certain portions of its nuclear activities, in return for relief from some of the sanctions imposed against Iran in the recent years, including the petrochemical and automobile industry sanctions. The P5+1 group have also agreed to release $4.2 billion of Iran’s frozen assets, lift the ban on Iran’s gold trade, refrain from restricting its oil exports and allow the sale of civilian aircrafts’ spare parts to Iran. Touching on the February round of nuclear negotiations between Tehran and the G5+1 in the Austrian capital, Vienna, the American and European officials consider the discussions led to “an understanding on the key issues that need to be resolved, and in a timetable for negotiations over the next few months.” Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif labeled the just-concluded Vienna II nuclear talks “very successful,” underling the meeting clarified the situation for all sides. Another successful outcome of Vienna II is the fact that the position of all sides on the four major issues - enrichment, sanctions, international peaceful nuclear cooperation and the Arak reactor -- has been clarified, according to Zarif. The next round of talks between Iran and six world powers on a final nuclear agreement will be held on April 7-9 and the venue is likely to be Vienna again.
