Envoy Criticizes Behavior With Iranian Citizen In US Prison

Tehran, Aug 11, IRNA – Iran ambassador to Oman Hossein Noushabadi criticized the inappropriate and inhuman behavior of the US judicial officials with Mrs. Shahrzad Mirqoli-khan who was in prison in that country for 5 years. He also said that Iran has complained to international judicial bodies and human rights organizations in this regard. Noushabadi added that unfortunately Mirqoli-khan was imprisoned 5 years ago upon a baseless accusation by the US government and judicial officials and was interrogated under the worst situation and was psychologically tortured. The ambassador stressed that given Omani officials efforts for transferring her from USA to Iran, Mrs. Mirqoli-khan has arrived in Oman and will fly to Iran in the next few days. He added that Iran and Oman cooperate with each other in humanitarian and human rights affairs and consult in international and regional affairs. The ambassador said Iran has used Omani mediation in this case, but the US government did not do anything to reduce prison term of Mirqoli-khan. He expressed hope that the US and Britain governments would do necessary measures to release two innocent Iranian citizens, Mr. Atarodi and Mr. Tajik, who are imprisoned in the US and Britain, as well as other innocent Iranians imprisoned there./end
