Envoy: Despite Unfair Sanctions, Iran Has Achieved Much Progress

New York, Oct 9, IRNA – Iran's Ambassador in the United Nations Hossein Dehqani said in spite of imposing unfair sanctions, Iran has obtained noticeable progress in achieving millennium development goals in the national level. Delivering a speech in general meeting of the second committee of the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, Dehqani said countries should not consider human values and international regulations as consumption goods and ignore them under different pretexts. World, economically, is in a turning point by different reasons and achievement of millennium development goals depends on new tactics and transparent, efficient and legitimate financial systems. Dehqani continued that every country is responsible for its economic development in the framework of its preferential programs, so respect to each country's sovereignty in determination of its priorities and appropriate approaches upon its own situation and special needs is important and necessary. Unfortunately, developing countries' abilities in direction of mobilizing necessary possibilities to fulfill millennium development goals had strongly decreased because of economic crises in recent years and the existing international mechanism is not able to settle many of these problems. So, he added, implementation of necessary reforms in international financial system is necessary and important to promote efficiency level, transparency and legitimacy. The ambassador called paying attention by the UN to development mechanism necessary, adding that lack of such attention will have negative effects on development trend in long term./end
